Swoon-worthy Date Ideas

by Katie Cook

loveValentine’s Day is fast approaching. Are you feeling the pressure of planning the perfect date???  Instead of doing dinner and drinks, get out and do something with your special someone!

If you must do dinner take a fresh approach.  Give your eyes a break and rely on your other senses. Guests at Opaque indulge in a three-course prix fixe meal in total darkness. Naked Kitchen and Forage’s Wild Kitchen  are great options for the adventurous diner. Guests at either of these secretive “restaurants” will enjoy innovative dishes in a communal setting.

Take a class and learn how to do something new together. Crimson Kitchen and Mama Thai’s Cooking Club  offer small group and private cooking classes in Indian and Thai cuisine. All of the classes offer plenty of hands-on instruction and take place in the instructor’s home. If you prefer to drink your dinner learn to make the perfect cocktail in a Cocktail Ambassadors class. If you and your honey just moved in together and need to brighten to walls consider taking a letter press or screen printing class at Workshop or Root Division.

If you’re the outdoorsy type consider taking a sunset or moonlit kayak around the Bay. City Kayak in San Francisco and Sea Trek in Sausalito offer kayak rentals or guided tours. Dancing may be the best aphrodisiac. Café Cocomo is the place for Salsa… and Tango, Batcha, and a variety of other Latin dances.  If you prefer to Swing Dance head to Golden Gate Park on Sunday for Lindy in the Park. Either way, both places provide dance lessons before opening the dancefloor to the public.

Forego the traditional flowers and check out Magnolias by Moonlight at the San Francisco Botanical Garden. Magnolias by Moonlight lets you and your date roam through the Botanical Gardens while enjoying a magnolia-inspired cocktail. The cocktail hour is followed by a moonlit tour of the gardens.
